The Power of a Quote

The Power of a Quote
by Karen Benson
I am the one who likes to read the quotes at the end of someone’s email signature—I find them very fascinating and it sort of tells me a little bit more about that person.  I currently use the quote, “The kindest compliment I can receive is a referral—thank you for your business” (copied of course from someone else’s email quote that I found suitable).  There is one in particular quote that literally changed my life—and even at 41 yrs old, I realized that I too can take on a new outlook on life! It reads “Having a Good Day is YOUR Choice”. Let’s deeply think about this quote for a moment, and what it really means. Haven’t we ALL allowed someone to ruin our day in a split second? In a blink of an eye you were having a wonderful day, and then in ONE instant---someone immediately stole your joy?

I’m sure we can all relate to the dreaded post office experience? (I apologize if you work for USPS, hopefully this does not apply to you).  The frustrating long lines, the man in front of you that doesn’t even have his package ready… then you get up to the counter….and can literally feel the hot steam and grimace coming from the worker’s face. You can be assured that most of the time you feel that you are nothing but a nuisance to the employee, simply because you stepped in the door! My friend was literally told by one employee, “We’re not allowed to talk during the transaction”. REALLY? I see a lot of signs posted on the post office walls—show me THAT sign!

Then there was the time my sister and I grocery shopped together, having fun, as she is my best friend as well(she got 8 items and I got 7 items, and we separated them in the same grocery basket, planning on making two separate transactions with the cashier). We stood in the line labeled “Express Lane, 10 or less items”.   I could see the glare from the others in the line, their eyes silently counting the items in my basket…until finally, the brave, boisterous woman behind me proudly says to me, “EXCUSE me—THAT looks like WAY more than 10 items!!!”  I mean REALLY lady? Congratulations lady, you can count to 18—you must be an accountant! I literally felt the hairs rise behind my neck.  I’ll bet she was the school class hall monitor that ratted everyone out! She must’ve felt so proud of herself that day. Needless to say, I was fuming while putting my groceries in the car—absolutely livid!

Back to the quote that literally changed my life (which I proudly copied from an associate of mine). It is short and simple but sums it up the best, “Having a Good Day is YOUR choice”.  Isn’t that the God’s honest truth?

So the last time I went back to the post office, ready for my weekly scowl and grimace from the employee(s) as usual, when the employee finished my transaction and didn’t bother of course to say thank you or goodbye…I genuinely told her when I took my receipt, “Have a blessed day”.  And guess what? She actually stretched a smile across her face from ear to ear—it was like she won a prize—and said,  “YOU too!”  On this day, I hope she discovered that….”Having a Good Day, is YOUR choice!”  She did win a prize—the most valuable, priceless gift of all.

Trendy Fall Designer Handbags

If you're looking for a fresh new handbag for fall, here's the scoop on the latest trends in color, fabric, styling and details!
SHADES OF WINE

The hottest color in handbags this fall is wine. Deep, rich burgundy and bordeaux suede, leather and other materials are perfectly suited for the season. Salvadore Ferragamo Red Woven Leather Satchel, (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $699)

ANIMAL PRINTS
Animal prints have been HOT for a few seasons now! And we'll see more of the same for the fall. From dainty framed bags to soft suede hobos, we'll see every style of purse in animal prints. Michael Kors Marina Canvas Brown Tie Die Rope Large Shoulderbag (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $158)

QUILTING
While croc-embossing is hot, quilting is the most popular texture in handbags this fall. Top designers such as Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Dior and Lanvin are all offering their own versions, but you can also find bargain bags in quilted faux leather. Michael Kors Quilted Hamilton  (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com)

HANDHELD BAGS
Oversized shoulder bags take a step back in favor of smaller handheld bags this season. Your bag shouldn't be so small that you can't carry your essentials, but it also shouldn't be large enough to carry your sweater, either. Lauren Ralph Lauren Newbery Flap Satchel Patina (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $179)

LADYLIKE SATCHELS
You'll find the store shelves filled with ladylike satchels in classic shapes with prim and proper accents such as lace and bows. These lady-chic handbags are the perfect complement to fall's feminine full skirts, peplum dresses, ruffled blouses and silk suits. Roberta Gandolfi Turquoise Leather Shoulderbag (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $239)

ENVELOPE CLUTCH
Chic and cool, the envelope clutch works for day and night. A little larger than your standard evening clutch, this style of bag will take you from the office to the club without missing a beat. Burberry Haymarket Check Clutch  (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $299)

CHAIN STRAPS

You'll see delicate chain straps on every type of bag from leather hobos to everyday shoulder bags. This season, we'll see them combined with high-gloss patent leather in rich colors -- that wine, violet and cobalt blue so hot right now. Michael Kors Black Pebbled Leather with Chain Straps EW Jet Set Tote Bag  (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $178)

FUR TRIM

When the weather cools down, out comes the fur (and faux fur). Look for handbags adorned with soft fur details in rich chocolate and creamy white. Don't overdo the fur, though: When carrying a fur-trimmed bag, skip the fur coat. Stuart Weitzman Faux Fur Trim Shoulderbag (Nordstrom, $575)

BELTED ACCENTS
Flap satchels, drawstring totes and structured crossbodies are all popular now. This fall, we'll see them embellished with belted accents and buckles -- simple details that take a plain bag from ordinary to extraordinary without much fanfare. Michael Kors Austin Pebble Bronze (and also White available) Leather Shoulderbag (www.Designer-Handbags4U.com, $189)

How to Clean Your Designer Handbag

So, you've got your hot new designer handbag and got a stain on it--ug!!!  No need to call 911 just yet! See how to clean your designer handbag, whether it be leather, fabric or suede.

Cleaning Designer Fabric Handbags

Cleaning designer fabric handbags or designer canvas handbags is very easy. Just follow these simple steps.

·  Mild soap and a damp white cloth can be used on most canvas or fabric handbags. Remember to blot rather than rub as blotting will cause the stain to spread.

·  If the stain is stubborn, you can try using a toothbrush to gently scour the stain. However, be careful not to apply too much pressure while rubbing as this may cause damage to the fabric.

·  It's always a good idea to apply Scotch Guard to a new fabric handbag. This will keep it free from future stains and damage. Simply follow the instructions on the can and apply every six months or as needed.

·  Oxyclean - You can make your fabric purse look brand new--with just a drop! Let it sit for a minute, then gently rub in a circular motion with a damp cloth. I personally have even removed ink stains! What a miracle Oxyclean is!

How to Clean Suede Designer Purses

 ·  Use a suede brush to lift the surface of the suede. This helps to get some of the dirt out of it. You can use a pencil eraser to remove some dirt marks or dry stains.

·  Use a nubuck cloth, it will remove the dirt from the fiber. This works best with ink stains.

Anything that didn't come off, is likely to never come off.

·  Try applying a little white vinegar then use a cloth to scrub it off.

·  A suede cleaner kit will work very well.

The Kiwi Suede and Nubuck Cleaner is perfect and can be purchased at Walgreens for less than $6.
·  Start using a suede protector which will help keep out dirt from getting into the leather.

This makes any type of cleaning easier in the future.

·  Never use soap on suede!

Designer Leather Handbag Care

Michael Kors Black Pebbled Leather with Chain Straps EW Jet Set Tote Bag
Follow these simple steps to clean your Designer Leather Handbag:
·  In order for a leather handbag to age gracefully with the natural darkening that comes with time, most do not come pre-treated.
The first thing you should do is treat your leather handbag with a good leather protector to keep it well protected from stains.
·  If your leather handbag does get a stain before you are able to seal it with a protector, then use a good leather cleaner.
The same kind of cleaner for leather shoes would work just fine also. Simply follow the directions.
If the leather cleaner does not work, you can always take your bag to a professional leather cleaner.
·  Once the stain is removed, re-condition the leather with a good leather conditioner to restore it’s natural luster and color.
This should be done at least 2 times a year or as needed. Re-conditioning the leather will also keep it free from dryness and cracking.
·  If the leather becomes discolored, there are several leather sprays on the market to restore the natural color.
·  Never use soap or other cleaning solvents on a leather handbag.
Because leather is a porous material, these products will only cause further damage and cracking.
·  Never use Baby Wipes which contain alkaline and will destroy the finish of the leather.
·  Never store your leather designer handbag in the bottom of a closet. The leather will absorb excess moisture which causes mildew.
·  Never store it in a plastic cover, as the plastic will stick to it over time and add to discoloration. Store it in a well ventilated area in the dust bag it was packaged in.

Water Spots on Your Louis Vuitton Handbags

-  The worst thing you can do is "rub" the spot! Grab a papertowel and apply pressure to the water spot for about one minute.....then remove the paper towel. Over time the water spot will gently fade.

So now you know the "secrets" on how to remove stains on all your designer handbags!
